Where to begin? The plane ride wasn't horrible, but it really wasn't much fun either. I was stuck on the plane by a person who kept sneezing all over the place. (I hope to god I don't get sick.) The plane ride overall was not horrible though, just long and boring. We watched 3 movies, well, some people watched 3 movies, I read a book. The entire book. Granted it was just a 400 page mass market romance novel, but I finished the entire thing on the plane. I slept for 2 hours maybe at the most b/c I just wasn't tired. All the windows were closed as well so I couldn't watch the sunrise or sunset which really was not cool at all. Oh well. The food was airplane food. Sorta like cafeteria food if you have never been on a airplane. I had chicken and rice for diner and eggs and sausage for breakfast. Neither were absolutely disgusting but I am glad I don't have to live off of that stuff forever.
I arrived in Japan around 5:40pm Sunday (I left Ohio at 11:53 with a layover in Detroit until 3:30) No worries though the flight itself was only 13 hours, I just lost an entire day on the airplane. Stupid time zones. Japan is actually 13 hours ahead of us, I was telling people 12, so sue me for lying. And I guess with daylight savings I will be 14 hours ahead...but we don't have to worry about that for a while now.
When I arrived at the airport in Japan I didn't have any trouble getting through security at all. Though I must say I am glad they could speak to me in English and I was really nervous, but everything was ok. Kiuchi-san was there to pick me up and having never seen him before I knew who he was when I first walked through the doors to the rest of Japan. We caught a train to my town about 20 mins from the airport. We then took a taxi the rest of the way to the place I was staying. It wasn't horrible, but hard when you have 4 suitcases and two of them are at least 50 lbs. (One was actually over, but it wasn't weighed at the airport so I wasn't charged extra so I really don't know how much it weighed.)They wouldn't all fit in the trunk of the taxi so one of them had to sit on the back seat with me. I will now just have to get used to people driving on the wrong side of the road.
I don't even know what time I got to my house where I am staying. The two people I am living with seem really cool though. And My room is small but cute. I don't have a lot of shit here so I have room for everything. (Well, I haven't unpacked yet, so I am assuming I will have room for everything.) My bed in a two inch mattress that just lays on the ground and is as hard as a rock. So I could have just slept on the floor. When you are that tired you really won't complain where you have to sleep. I will have to figure something new out though. But I went to sleep around 12:00 and then I was wide awake at 5:00. Crazy I guess I wasn't that tired after all. Now I am sitting here writing on my blog my first day in Japan. Which just happens to be a national holiday. It is be nice to old people day. Yeah that is right they have a national holiday for old people. The school is closed and everything. IT IS CRAZY! Oh well that is it for now.
